Receiving Blankets

Receiving blankets are typically a little smaller than other types of baby bedding. They are very practical for using in moses baskets because of their size, but are also useful for wrapping your baby warmly while they are feeding, or for placing over them while they are playing in a bouncy chair.

Most receiving blankets are square which makes them ideal for use as a swaddling blanket, (to learn how to do this take a look at our "How to Swaddle" article). However, once your baby has passed the newborn stage you may find the blanket is no longer large enough for this purpose ,and will have to purchase a bigger blanket or a proper swaddling blanket if you want to continue to swaddle your baby. But since not all babies enjoy being tightly wrapped, starting out with a receiving blanket is a great way to gauge how your baby likes it before spending money on a purpose made product.

Receiving blankets come in a variety of colours and patterns to suit all tastes, and are a very popular gift for a new baby. Choosing a really special blanket will one day make a lovely keepsake for the child.
