Moses Basket Sheets - What do you need?

Here you will find information, tips and advice about buying the right moses basket sheets. You can find a selection of relevant products in our Online Store.

When it comes to buying baby bedding, it is always prudent to have at least two of everything. For a start, you will need a spare set for wash day but you will also need spare bedding to hand in case of leaking nappies and regurgitated feeds.

Unless you are planning on using a baby sleeping bag (which generally are unsuitable for a newborn unless they weighed in excess of 10lbs), you will need to use at least one flat sheet when your baby is napping and at night. Babies, of course, are individuals and will have their own preferences about how hot or cold is comfortable for them while they are sleeping. But there are guidelines for how many blankets does a baby need at night. A moses basket sheet on its own will suffice in very warm rooms (in excess of 24 C/ 75 degrees F). At a moderately warm temperature of about 18 C (65 degrees F) to 21 C (70 degrees F) you should tuck two layers of blankets over the sheet. In a cooler room most babies require a sheet and three blankets (or layers of blanket).

Moses baskets sheets are not expensive, with the price of a pack of two starting at about £6. As with most baby products, consumers will find a rather limited selection of colours with gender neutral colours such as white, cream and yellow, or gender typical colours such as pink and blue being the norm. The majority of flat sheets are made from 100 percent cotton. For an extra couple of pounds you can buy an organic cotton moses basket sheet, (organic baby bedding, as a rule, tends to be more expensive).

To protect the mattress and keep things hygienic you will also need a minimum of two fitted sheets for your moses basket. These cost approximately £7 per pair, and are widely available from major baby product retailers such as Mothercare and Kiddicare, as well as larger chain stores such as John Lewis.

The most economical way of buying baby bedding is to look for a moses basket bedding set. These frequently include two fitted sheets, two flat sheets and two baby blankets, (often cellular blankets) and are priced at around £20. Baby retailers such as Babies R Us often stock themed nursery bedding sets such as the I Love My Bear Moses Basket Bedding Set, which are slightly more expensive but a good option for parents looking for an alternative to plain pastel designs.
