Do I need a moses basket mattress protector?
Using extra protection for your baby's mattress can be beneficial. This is particularly the case if you have a baby who is sick in their moses basket a lot.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money then you do not necessarily need a purpose made product. Most parents will have a pack of muslin squares in the house, and these will do the job very well. Doubling up the muslin or using two should give enough protection to ensure that regurgitated feeds or leaking nappies do not seep through the sheet into the mattress itself.
If you do want the ease of having a designed-for-purpose product, then pram mattress protectors can also be used in moses baskets. The cheapest product is the Clippasafe pram mattress protector, which costs just £2.50. This is a 91cm by 61cm waterproof sheet which can be cleaned by soaking in a lukewarm solution of disinfectant or nappy cleansing agent. A higher quality alternative is the Hippychick pram mattress protector, which retails at about £10 and receives excellent customer reviews. The sheet is made from a soft, breathable pure brushed cotton material, rather than the cheap plastic that many mattress protectors are made from. A hidden layer of polyurethane keeps the sheet 100 percent waterproof.
