Why buy a cellular blanket?

Cellular blankets are a great choice of bedding because they regulate temperature better than an "ordinary" blanket. The holes allow air to circulate, keeping the baby cooler in summer but also trapping warmth in winter. If the nursery tends to get quite cold, choose an acrylic cellular blanket which will be slightly warmer than a cotton one.

Think about how you will use the blanket. If you think you may want to give swaddling a try, a large square blanket will be much better for this than a rectangular one. If you plan to breastfeed, you might want to buy a larger cellular blanket which you can be draped from your shoulder to give you and your baby more privacy when feeding in public. Bigger blankets can also be useful for doubling as a play mat when your baby is old enough to play and explore on the floor.

Finally, don’t forget practical considerations such as washing and care instructions, and choose a product that suits your routine and lifestyle. For instance, if you are very busy make sure you are purchasing a blanket which can be machine washed and is easy to care for.
