Why choose a baby sleeping bag?

Baby sleeping bags are a practical choice of bedding. They keep the baby at a constant and comfortable temperature, without the parents needing to worry about how many layers of sheets their baby needs or the possibility of the baby kicking their covers off and waking because they are cold. This can help the baby sleep a little longer, and is believed to help reduce the risk of SIDS by making overheating less likely. Their use also takes away the possibility of the baby wriggling down underneath their blankets, although parents should ensure the baby sleeping bag is suitable for babies under 10lb if planning to use them for a newborn so their baby cannot slip down inside the bag.

This form of bedding is particularly beneficial if you are starting your baby off in a moses basket. The transition from moses basket to cot at around 4 to 6 months can be a little stressful for a baby. But using a sleeping bag will make their new bedtime routine more familiar and they are more likely to accept the change. Putting the moses basket - with the baby inside - in the cot for the first few nights will also help the infant familiarise themselves with their new sleeping surroundings.

18 degrees C (65F) - 2.5 tog

Do not use blankets over the sleeping bag unless the room temperature is under 16 degrees Celsius as your baby may get too hot.
